Casual wear is most ideal for the trips. Jeans, shorts (summer), t-shirts, polos, sweaters (winter), and dresses with shoulders and knees covered. Short shorts, mini skirts, and tank tops are not allowed on our trips. Some tourist attractions have strict entry regulations.
For feet, Chacos are the usual favorites. Flip flops and sandals are good too. Shoes are less convenient, as you can not enter places of worship with them. Whatever you wear, they will get very wet when you are volunteering.
Yes. You just need to bring every sentence down to 3 words to talk with most Indians on the streets. But you will find many students and working professionals who can converse with you for the most part. Just remember to talk slow (not loud) and not use the slang.

Halah– :
I was a bit nervous to go up to the women we were serving and talk to them, I didn’t know their language or what they were used to. To be honest I felt quite awkward. Then, I just went for it and began trying to communicate with the women. I was struck by their smiles and immediately put at ease… On that day I realized that despite language barriers and different cultural norms, a smile is universal.

I did not realize until later, but this was God showing that this trip was not solely about me helping other people… Rather, the girl I have been serving was purely a vessel of God’s love to me.
